Our Meditation

Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my meditationPsalm 5:1

The psalmist knew something about the Lord's interest in our meditation, so he could ask Him to consider his meditation. If we know that the Lord is interested in what goes on in our minds, then it will be necessary that we are mindful of what we make the object of our meditation. This, in my view, is a major challenge to many of us who want to live a holy life. What goes on in the seclusion of our heart, though unnoticed by other people, is loudly heard in the courts of heaven, and that's where it matters the most.

David cried out to God to create in him a clean heart because he understood that it was important to his desire of maintaining an intimate relationship with God; he knew that out the the heart springs the issues of life. Since this is true, it behooves all, like David, who desire intimacy with God, to tidy up the inner state of their heart by determining to order the things they meditate on, and to ensure that they are in line with the truth of God's word.
