And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. Mark 9:10
Sometimes we may wonder why it was difficult for the disciples of Jesus Christ to get what Jesus was telling them about His resurrection; but think of it, they had seen Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, even after he had been buried for four days. At least someone had to roll the stone away. But Jesus was speaking of having to rise from the dead after being in the grave for three nights and three days, and at no time did He tell them how this was going to happen.
Was this going to be a spiritual resurrection of some kind? But if it was going to be a spiritual resurrection, then how could they be certain that He had risen? I imagine that all of these, and more, were in their contemplation as they pondered the question of His resurrection. For us, we have the advantage of hind sight based on what we read in the scriptures, but they had to figure it out for themselves.
All accounts of people raised from the dead known to them were done through the agency of a person who prayed for the dead to be raised, but Jesus made no such inference regarding His own resurrection. At least no instruction was given them in this regard. So it is no wonder that His disciples were bewildered by His constant mention of His rising from the dead. However, in spite of their bewilderment, Jesus gloriously rose from the dead as He said that He would. Praise God!
