God exists as three persons. In other words, three persons exist in one God. Arguably, the doctrine of the Trinity distinguishes Christianity from all other religions. The concept of the Trinity gives us insight into the personality of God. God exists in the persons of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God had existed in the three people even before the world was created, but He existed as the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit. In being, none of the persons is superior. The word "Trinity" means Tri-unity or Three–in–oneness. The Mystery of the Trinity is unveiled in the New Testament though there are a few references in the Old Testament such as Genesis 1:1-26, Genesis 3: 22, Genesis 11:7, Isaiah 45:4-6, Daniel 6:4-5 and Psalms 45:6-7. The New Testament references to Trinity are found in Matthew 3:16-17 and Matthew 28:19. These Scriptures indicate that:
(a) God is three persons;
(b) Each person in the Trinity is equally God and
(c) The three is only one God.
Other New Testament references are John 1:1, John 17:24, John 20:28, Acts 5:3-4, 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Colossians 1:15, 1 Timothy 4:5 and Hebrews 1:3.
