God's Report Card of Job

Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? Job 1:8

This is God's brief report about the life of Job. Here we learn that God takes particular interest in the minutest detail of the life of His people. I ask myself, if God was to give a report of my life, what will be His remark? As we ponder this over in our minds, let's examine the details of God's report of the life of Job.

1. There is none like him on the earth. This statement does not imply that Job was the only one on earth who sought God in his day, but rather that of all who did, none sought God with the sincerity of heart as Job.

2. A perfect (blameless) man.
By perfect, God did not mean that Job was sinless, rather it meant that in everything that Job had the light of God in, you could not fault him. In other words, he was a man who walked according to the light of God that he had. What a testimony from God about a man!

3. An upright man.
Such a person is trustworthy and follows every acceptable rule of moral behaviour.

4. One who fears God.
This is a deep reverence for God, and speaks of the value he placed on God in his life. God is held in the greatest place of honour and respect. For such a person, God's word regarding any matter is the end of all controversies. He may not understand what God means by what He says or does, but because it is what God says, he counts it as right because he sees God as righteous, doing and saying only what is right. This deposition can be seen in Job's response to the news of the loss of everything that he had, including his children. "In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly" What a man!

5. He hates evil.
This is the character of Jesus Christ who we are told loves righteousness and hates evil. A person who hates evil will also love what is right. According to Psalm 1, blessed is such a person who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Such was the man, Job!

Listen to the second testimony of God about Job, and this came after the devil had struck him, and destroyed everything that he had.

Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And STILL HE HOLDS FAST TO HIS INTEGRITY, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause." Job 2:3

What God meant by this is that Job's devotion to Him was not dependent on anything he got from God. O how satan would have been disappointed by Job's response, for he had told God that Job will curse Him to the face, but not so for Job. What a testimony!

So, what do you think that God may say to the devil about you today,  if He has to? And remember, this question is not to bring you into condemnation, but rather that you and I may reconsider our ways and make amends in whatever area of our lives that we may be deficient.
