Warring by the Prophetic Word

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Revelation 19:15

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare. 1 Timothy 1:18

"And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts" 2 Peter 1:19

In 2 Peter 1:19 we are told that the prophetic word is the word of scripture. So how does this translate into a personal prophetic word with which we can engage in spiritual warfare? This happens when the Holy Spirit quickens a particular scripture, either in the time of personal study of the bible, or during the preaching of the word, a particular passage is quickened to your heart; at other times, the Holy Spirit may bring a particular passage of the scriptures to mind. At such times it will be as though God is directly talking to you. The word that was in its original context, spoken to someone else, becomes yours for a present action.

What do you do with such quickened word? It was in this regard that the apostle Paul told Timothy to war a good warfare by the prophecies spoken over him. Such prophetic word becomes to you as "thus says the Lord." This becomes what is born of God that you can weave against the kingdom of darkness in any conflict. This is the sword of the Spirit, and whenever it proceeds out of your mouth, it will have the effect of the Holy Spirit Himself warring with it. "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith." 1 John 5:4
Every believer can participate in this abundant provision of God for spiritual conflict. We weave the sword of the Spirit by saying what the quickened word says. This is exactly how Jesus is going to vanquish the antichrist and his army at the battle of Armageddon. Since this is true, should not we who shall reign with Him do as we see our Commander do?
