But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” Luke 8:54
The context of this passage is about the daughter of Jairus who died. When Jesus came to the house, mourners were already gathered, and they all knew that the girl was dead. But Jesus said to them that the girl was not dead but asleep. They mocked Him because they knew that she was dead.
Taking His three disciples with Him and the girl's father and mother, He asked that everyone else be put outside. But why did Jesus make such a request, and what lesson are we to learn from it? Can two walk together except they are agreed? Jesus, in putting them out, expelled unbelief and allowed only those who were in agreement with Him and what He was going to do.
The lesson for us is that we, like Jesus, should surround ourselves with people of like faith when we are believing God for the supernatural. Unbelief is contagious, and must be expelled from the vicinity where miracles are expected.
