Grace is the most lavish gesture of benevolence ever known to humanity.
Unlike any other thing that we receive from God, it cost God the life of
His only begotten Son to make it possible. Being under grace is the
same as living under the canopy of God's lavish benevolence which was
made possible at the expense of His Son. It is living in everything that
the kindness and love of God has made possible. So, what are those
things that God's kindness and love have made possible?
First, it makes possible peace with God, then, it confers on us the privilege to be called the children of God. We who were not a people, have become God's people. But this privilege confers on us the responsibility of walking worthy of being called the children of God.
Coming to grace obliterates condemnation through the forgiveness of our sins by the blood of Jesus Christ, and frees us from the power of the enemy who accuses us day and night before our God. Now, when the enemy accuses us, we can point him to the cross where we were not only forgiven, but where he was roundly defeated in our stead by Christ (Colossians 2:15).
Grace sets before us an endless glory into which all who are in Christ will inherit. Sadly, this ultimate end of our present advantage has been the least emphasised benefit of our redemption. It is to this end that Christ died on the cross to bring us back home to our loving heavenly Father, and to stand before Him unashamed when the journey in the wilderness comes to an end. This is grace.
