The first doctrine of Satan is to show God as insufficient to satisfy
man's deepest desires; he sold this to Adam and Eve, and ensnared them.
By this doctrine he succeeded in separating man from God. In seducing
our first parents to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil which they were forbidden by God to eat, Satan was in essence
telling them that they needed more than God had made available. In other
words, it was better for them to take their lives in their hands, and
sour above all that God had made possible for them. When they bought
into this lie, they became enslaved to sin, which by its incidence in
their lives, corrupted everything in them, including their offspring.
Sadly, this doctrine of Satan has dominated the psychic of man by constantly placing in him the desire to live contrary to God. In a nutshell, the doctrine of Satan is independence from God. This lie is predicated on the premise that God is withholding good from His creatures, therefore, it is to their best interest to assert their independence from Him. But away from God, man is in utter depravity, the solution of which lies in his return to God. It is to this end that Christ died on the cross to bring man back to God (1 Peter 3:18).
