Grace and the Renewed Mind (I)

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2

Everything that grace resulted in will be unseen in our life until our minds are renewed in the particular area of the work of grace. The transformation that grace brings us will only manifest when our minds are renewed. For example, we are delivered from sin by grace, but until we change our minds regarding sin and righteousness, this deliverance will not result in a transformed life. If we continue to think in terms of sin, our righteousness will never become obvious to us, even though we are righteous.

The renewed mind empowers us to think in line with what grace has accomplished. When our thinking is at variance with what God says that grace accomplished for us, then, we limit the hitherto unlimited power of God. If, for example, we have a sinner’s mentality, we will always say that we are sinners, and the result is that without knowing it, our attitude will be like that of a sinner. But when we believe that we have the righteousness of God imputed to us, we will think like a righteous person, and ultimately behave like a righteous person, because as a man thinks, so he is.

If for example, your thinking is inconsistent with the truth of what happened as a result of the work of grace in the area of healing, you will constantly look forward to being healed some day. But if you think in line with grace, you will know that you are already healed, and what is left on your part is to believe and receive it. Until your thinking is renewed to think along the line of what grace has done, you cannot walk experientially in the fullness of your divine inheritance.
