God had made a promise to Abraham that he will be the father of many
nations, but in reality, everything in the natural stood diametrically
opposed to the promise. He was a hundred years, Sarah was ninety years
old and was barren. Confronting Abraham's faith was a catalogue of
impossibilities, yet, against these odds, he believed. He staggered not
at the promise, not allowing the fact of the matter to determine what he
believed, he was strong in faith. Abraham's faith looked to the
strength of God, rather than the magnitude of the natural
circumstances.
Think of how honoured God would have been when the devil came to Abraham and said, "Are you not carrying this faith stuff too far? just look at you, hundred years old, and Sarah, ninety years old. This is foolishness, Abraham be wise and stop fooling yourself". And Abraham replies, "Satan, get behind me, God said, and if He said it, it will be as He said in spite of how old Sarah and I are". His unshakable confidence in the promise of God was giving glory to God. We, being Abraham's children, should exhibit like faith as our father. The character of his faith was not just that God is able, but that He will do as He promised to. In other words, He is a faithful God.
