Word for Today

The Word for Today

Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

The Blindness of the Jews

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the worldJohn 1:29

This was the first public testimony of the efficacious nature of Jesus' mission. The Lamb of God was a sacrificial Lamb, and when John the Baptist introduced Jesus as the Lamb of God, the Jews were not ignorant of what he meant. The only way by which the lamb atones for sin was by death, therefore, when John introduced Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, he was simply telling them that Jesus was the sacrifice that God was going to offer for the sin of the world.

Sadly, the elders of Israel were blinded by their envy of Jesus that they could not see what John was trying to say to them. The same is true today, those who have their own agenda often are blinded to the truth about who Jesus is because the revelation of Jesus' true identity does not suit their selfish narrative.
