The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:16
You will notice that it is not with our mind that the Spirit bears witness, but with our spirit. However, the witness that He bears with our spirit can influence the way that we think in our mind when it is renewed.
One of the witnesses that the Spirit bears with our spirit is that we are children of God. Our mind receives this witness from our spirit, and believe that we are children of God.
Another witness that the Spirit bears witness our spirit is that we are healed. Our mind has to receive this witness from our spirit, and believe that we are healed in our body.
The same is true for everything that happened on the cross. The Spirit bears with our spirit that it truly is ours. It is in our spirit that we perceive what happened on the cross, and we believe in our hearts.
It is important that we never allow the witness of the flesh to override the witness of the Spirit. This is the battle that we all encounter in our faith walk.
The witness of the Spirit is spiritual, but the witness of the flesh is carnal. The former results in victory through faith, while the latter results in defeat through sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). The witness of the Spirit is constantly in agreement with what happened on the cross, while the witness of the flesh consistently points to what the curse brought about.
