"Come, Zion! Escape, you who live in Daughter Babylon!" Zechariah 2:7
There
were Jews living in Babylon at this time who had become comfortable and
were no longer looking forward to returning to Judea. It was to such
Jews who were content to dwell and remain in this heathen city that this
verse was addressed. The same is true for Christians who have found the
world a comfortable place to live in and are no longer looking forward
to being with Jesus, to such, but God is calling to hasten their exit
from the world because like Babylon, judgment is about to come to the
world for its rebellion against God.
Sadly,
there are many Christians, who like Lot's wife, have fallen in love with
this present world that the thought of leaving it is unthinkable. But
Jesus warns us to remember Lot's wife. To invest one's life in the world
is like investing in a failed company, but sadly, this is what many in
Christ are doing. The world is a failed system under the judgment of
God, and as Israel was admonished to leave Babylon, believers are
admonished to come out of the world.
