The Prospective of Punishment
"…The Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His Mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God…who shall be punished with everlasting destruction" (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).
"The Lord cometh with ten thousand of His saints, to execute judgment" (Jude 1:14-15).
"God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell. And spared not the old world…bringing in the flood upon the ungodly. The Lord knowth how…to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished" (2 Peter 2:4,5,9).
And now, what shall I say to those that know it all, yet go deliberately on in ways which can have no outcome but this second death? I look at them and think, and the terribleness of their hallucination paralyzes my utterance. I would eagerly arouse them to their better sense, but when I speak, my most intense words seem but ashes in my mouth in comparison with the alarm for which their situation calls.
You people whose souls are absorbed with the pursuit of gain, wealth, and worldly desires without riches toward God. You passengers on the voyage of life without prayers, without CHURCH relationship, without concern for your immortal good, your God, or the eternity before you.
"How can ye escape the damnation of hell?—hear! "Hell had enlarged herself, and opens her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it" (Isaiah 5:14).
You "almost Christian" lingering these many years on the margin of the kingdom, looking in through the gates, but never quite ready to enter them, intending but never performing, often wishing but still postponing, hoping but without right to hope the appeal is for you: "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews2:3).
And you who call yourselves Christians, but have forgotten your covenant promises. You who have started out in the place of sin and death, but hesitate half way and stay to look back, you unsaved souls—with all haste, flee from the wrath to come by seeking and obtaining a heartfelt and eternal SALVATION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
A Way of Escape Provided
"For God so love the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). "WHOSOEVER WILL REPENT—Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3).
CONFESS—"He that covereth his sin shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy" (Proverbs 28:13).
BELIEVE—"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Act 16:31).
