What is crooked cannot be made straight, And what is lacking cannot be numbered. Ecclesiastes 1:15
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Proverbs 27:22
The human nature is corrupt from birth, and nothing can be done to
improve this condition. The only way out is death, and Jesus, as the
last Adam, experienced this death in our stead on the cross, and in
rising from the dead, He made a new life available for all who will
believe in Him. This new life is entered into by the Born Again
experience. In Christ, old things have passed away, and all things have
become new. The old corrupt life died on the cross with Jesus, was
buried with Him, and rose from the dead with Him to a brand new life
completely free of the corruption of the old nature.
The solution to the corruption in our humanity does not lie in trying to
make it better, it lies in death of the old, and birth of the new.
Apostle Paul, writing in Romans 6:4 said, "Therefore, we were buried
with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the
newness of life."
A sinner
may, with all sincerity, determine to give up certain bad traits in his
life, but this is to no avail because, according to Ecclesiastes 1:15, What is crooked cannot be made straight, And what is lacking cannot be numbered." The only way out of this corruption is the cross where the old man was crucified with Jesus.
