Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6
Hunger
is the body's natural craving for food. In the same way, hunger, in the
spiritual sense, is the soul's craving for God's word. Hunger is a gift
that helps save man from starvation and when hunger is not sensed, the
danger of starvation is eminent. When children are hungry, they cry;
when adults are hungry, they look for food.
When
the soul of believer is starved of spiritual nourishment, his entire
being is restless until it is satisfied in God. In this verse, Jesus
promised that those who sense the craving and yearning of their souls
for righteousness will be satisfied.
Jesus,
here implied an intense longing for righteousness, such as can only be
compared to that of a starving man for food, and gives assurance of
satisfaction.
