I believe not because I understand, it is because it is written;
believing leads me to worship. I seek to understand what is written,
yet, this is not the reason why I believe, I believe because it is
written. The word of God forever remains the foundation upon which true
faith is reposed because faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word
of God.
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." We are simply introduced to God with no elaborate efforts to prove His existence. To this simple presentation, I read, and believe because it is the word of God. But why didn't God deem it important to prove His existence? It is because He had left two undeniable witnesses in creation and our conscience. In other words, God was content to make Himself known through His works. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork".
When the question is asked, what is our basis for faith in God? Our simple response is to recourse to what is written. "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:3. This, what is written, is the first basis of all the claims we make of God, then, again, by what is written, we examine creation, and in it we see our faith validated. So, on the basis of what is written, we believe, and proceed to worship Him by whom all things are made.
Someone may object, and say that this is blind faith, but to this objection, we say, what is blind in looking at nature and observing in it a grand system that could not possibly have resulted apart from an intelligent designer? No, the simple believe in the existence of God is not blind faith, it is consistent with deductive reasoning based on available data from nature.
