The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25
You can't fear man and trust God; you will either trust God or fear man. If you fear man, you will be his slave, but if you trust God, you will be safe. The psalmist knew this truth, and he loudly declared it. For him, the Lord is his light and salvation: whom shall he fear. Those who know God personally don't have the fear of men, even though they may respect them. The writer of Hebrews was even more bold in declaring this truth when he said, "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" The truth is that we can either trust God or fear man, not both. God, speaking through the prophet Isaiah, said, "...who are you, that you should be afraid of a man that shall die, and the son of man which shall be made as grass. And forget the Lord your Maker..." Isaiah 51:12-13. When a believer fears man, it is testimonial that he has forgotten the greatness of his God.
Jesus, speaking on the same subject said, do not fear those who can only kill the flesh, but I show you who to fear, fear Him who cannot only kill the flesh, but can cast into hell fire. But thanks to God for the resurrection life in us that makes the threat of death impotent. In the words of Apostle Paul, to die is gain. The worst that man can do, kill the flesh, results in an eternal gain for us in whom dwells the Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
Satan will use men to try and drive fear into us, but remember that the fear of man is a snare. Trust God and you will see His mighty deliverance from the dread of men.
