Don't be Deceived

But why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say? Luke 6:46

A flagrant, disobedient lifestyle in a person who claims to be a Christian is a complete denial of the authority of Christ over him, and when this happens, can such a person be called a believer in Christ Jesus? To such a person, Jesus says, why do you call Me Lord, Lord, but do not the things that I say? Yet, to another, He says, on that day, some will say to Me, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name... And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of iniquity. It is not enough to call Him Lord, Lord, our walk must agree with our profession.

Any profession of faith in Christ that is marked by a lifestyle of continuing disobedience is a sure indication that no saving faith is at work. When saving faith is present, it creates a love for righteousness and hatred for iniquity. The apostle Paul would say of such a person who practices unrighteousness: "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. All those in the categories mentioned make a trade of those sins to the extent that it has become their identity. They are doers of unrighteousness. Don't be deceived, those who practice unrighteousness are not Christians because Christians don't practice unrighteousness. This much we are sure the scriptures affirm.
