Vanity upon Vanity

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity." Ecclesiastes 1:2

The emptiness of all things in relation to eternity. Man is born, strives, falls, stands, succeeds, fails, tries again, makes it, is established in his affluence, and finally, he dies, leaving everything behind. Jesus counsels us to labour with eternity in mind; to put our treasures in the place where earthly values can be preserved for all eternity.

In the final analysis, life is empty and meaningless apart from God. Every experience of life will come to an end somehow someday. Is your present experience sorrow? it will come to an end someday; is it joy? It will come to an end someday; is it affluence? It will come to an end someday. Is it poverty? It will come to an end someday. Every experience of life will come to an end someday, but the end of temporal life is not the end of all things, it is the beginning of a new experience that will last forever.

How you live here, and what you live for in this temporal life will determine what your eternal state will be like. Where is God in your present pursuits? According to the the Preacher, life is empty and vain in the end if it is not lived for God. "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity."
