As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the
Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the
Lord. Exodus 14:10 | NIV
Sometimes in life, we are like the Israelites, trapped, having no
natural way of escape. The Israelites did two things in the face of
their travail: they cried out to the Lord, which is the wise thing to
do, but then, overwhelmed by the fierceness of pharaoh's army behind
them, they turned to Moses and complained. Of the two people they cried
out to, only one was fitted to answer them: the Lord. Not even Moses
knew what was required of him to do at such a bad moment, but unlike the
rest of the people, he knew of only one person by whom deliverance
could come, so he looked to Him and exhorted the people to do likewise.
When we face such times like Moses and the Israelites, and nothing in
the natural realm is capable of bringing us through, we must turn our
eyes away from men for help, because there is no help in man; turn to
God who knows what and how to save us. Our knowledge of what He did for
Israel, when they were trapped between the sea and pharaoh will
strengthen our faith in His ability to do same for us. Peter found
himself sinking, and he cried out to the Lord for help and the Lord was
at hand to help him. The same is true for us too, the Lord will not fail
to deliver us when we cry out to Him in our hours of trouble.
