And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard these things,
that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the of
Achshaph, and to the kings who were from the north, in the mountains, in
the plain south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of
Dor on the west, to the Canaanites in the east and in the west, the
Amorites, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite in .... Joshua 11:1-3
Israel was a young nation facing multiple enemies who had been much
exercised in the act of war, better armed and who outnumbered them, yet
in all their battles, they were victorious because of the presence of a
factor that was absent in their enemies. So Israel could never say that
they got the victory because of what they did, but only because of God
on their side.
In our lives, we often come to the place where we are pitched in
battle against forces that are far stronger than us, and like Israel,
can do nothing in our own strength to survive. The presence of God with
us can do for us what it did for Israel in its wars against her enemies.
Are you engaged in a warfare that you know in yourself that you don't
stand a chance because of the natural superiority of your enemy? God's
first words to you are, "fear not, nor be dismayed". He knows about the
fierceness of the enemy more than you do. All He ask of you is to see
Him who fights for you, and know that He is Almighty and can accomplish
your warfare. Though your enemies may come against you as a flood, He is
able to contain their fierce attacks and bring you victory, just as He
did for Israel. So, trust Him.
