The Day of the Lord

Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as destruction from the Almighty. Joel 1:15

The day of the Lord connotes the time when the Lord comes in judgment. This is often preceded by the day of man, which is the time when man acts as being sovereign in himself. At this time, he lives to himself, unmindful of the will of God.

For the believer, the day of the Lord will be the judgment seat of Christ, where he will be judged for the things he did in the body.
When we live in sync with the will of God, we will desire that day to come because it will bring us rewards. But when our works are not right with God, we dread the coming of that day because it is a fearful thing to fall into the hand of God. It's important that those who are made right with God be mindful to walk right because to this are we saved: for good works. Ephesians 2:10

Act now in view of the coming day of the Lord. Live right; repent of everything you know is against the will of God for you. But repentance should not be done because we think God is so strict that He will crush us if we don't, rather, we are to repent because we know that God is so gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, that He will spare us from what we deserve if we turn back to Him. Knowing this about God leads to true repentance. Romans 2:4
