Limiting God

Our father in heaven, we thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins. We are grateful unto you for blessing us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places. We are praying today that you will open the understanding of your people and make them to receive from You. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Can God…?
Our key verse is taken from Psalms 78:41, which says, "Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel." I want you to think very well today. Are you limiting the power of God in your life? Remember, the greatest enemy of man is man himself. You are the greatest enemy of yourself. The Israelites got into trouble so many times for limiting the power of God. In Psalms 78:19-21, they asked unpardonable questions. They asked, "Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Can He provide flesh for his people?" They limited God. It is like asking the question can God give shoe without a shoe shop. Can God give meat without a market? Can God give light without electricity? Can God give health without medicine? This is one of the greatest sins of people today (Matthew 14:13:58, 17:17; Mark 4:40; Luke 24:25). The Israelites forgot or decided not to remember that it was God who gave angels food without a bakery; it was God who gave them water without a well. It was God who provided them with light without electricity. So the greatest sin of the Israelites was to ask the question, "Can God?"

Limiting God's Power
In spite of listening to messages every Sunday, many people are still asking the same question today either in their words, thoughts, or deeds: Can God perform miracles in my life? Can God cure my chronic diseases? Such questions limit the power of God in people's lives. In spite of seeing many miracles; some people still find it difficult to believe God. They behave as if God is not telling them the truth. They claim to have received miracles but keep on suspecting God. Such people are indirectly asking, "Can God solve my problems?" Such people will not receive answer to prayer from God. A lady was involved in prostitution for a very long time. It was later discovered that she had a diseased womb and her womb had to be removed. After this incident, this lady gave her life to Lord Jesus Christ and joined a local church. After some time of listening to faith messages and obeying God, she became a fulltime worker and forgot about marriage since she would no longer be able to have babies. Her doctors could not believe their eyes when this sister eventually got married and became pregnant. If God can do this for this woman without a womb, how much more those with wombs? God ways are not our ways. He will not mind sending angels to us like he did to Peter (Act 12:1-11) and Elisha (2 King 6:1 18). However, many people today are like Naaman the leper who wanted God to work the miracle in their own way. It is a very serious sin to limit God to particular place or point. God is able to take what you want from the devil’s crowd. In Hebrews 10:38 the Bible says, "The just shall live by faith." He does not say the just shall live by anxiety, fear, or worry. The Bible says believing is seeing but many people want to see before they believe. When you decide to believe God it can sometimes looks like madness. People talk about commonsense but the Bible does not say we should live by commonsense. Some people are so scared of death and have converted the Bible to a charm which they put under their pillows or inside their wrappers. Some pregnant women attach safety pins to their wrappers to protect their pregnancy. Some tie assorted crosses on their necks. Some leave the hair of their children uncut for many years because they are afraid the children might die. By these actions, they are asking God dangerous questions, "Can God protect my life? Can God protect my children?"

Danger of Limiting God
It is instructive to know that in the Bible, everyone who asked the question, can God, got into trouble (2 Kings 7:1-20 and Luke 1). After the prophesy of Elisha concerning how the Lord will bring plenty of food into Samaria, one of the aides of the king asked this question, "Behold if God will make window in heaven, can these thing be so and the man of God said to him, behold you shall see it with your eyes but you shall not eat thereof." This man asked the question, "Can God? His unbelief put him into trouble and he died when people were struggling to get at the plenty of food which he did not believe would come. Again Zachariah, the Priest, queried the angel of God who came to give him the information about his wife delivering a baby at old age. He asked the angel, "Whereby shall I know this for I am an old man and my wife well stricken in years?" The angel's response was to render Zachariah dumb.

God's Character
If you understand the nature of God, you will realize that God is limitless. Luke 1:37 says, "For with God nothing shall be impossible" and Isaiah 40:28 says, "Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding." In Genesis 17:1, by saying, "I am the Almighty God", that is God and that is His name. With a proper understanding of this character of God, you should therefore not see any problem as beyond the power of God. As Apostle Paul said, your confession should be "for I know who I have believed [as revealed above] and I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day" (2 Timothy 1:12).

Appeal
Now that you know God is not man, cast away the cloak of unbelief; take your burden to the Lord and leave them there. Dear reader, commit that broken home, the chains of disappointment, the wretched life of battling against sin and all ugly situations unto God and as you do this, you will see the God that does not faint. You will see the God with whom nothing is impossible and above all, you will see the hand of the Almighty God in your situation. Jesus is right now at the door waiting to deliver you if only you will invite Him to take over (Revelation 3:20).
