As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:14-16
According to 2 Timothy 1:9, God "has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works...", therefore, when Apostle Peter writes for us to be holy, he was not suggesting that we should be made holy by anything that we do because we are not made holy by anything that we can do; God already made us holy in Christ.
In his admonition for us to be holy, Peter was saying that since we have been made holy by God when He called us to Himself in Christ, we should walk in a manner that shows that we are a people who have been saved and made holy by God, who Himself is holy.
God never calls us to do anything that has not been made possible by what Jesus did on the cross. The call to walk holy is entirely predicated upon what Christ did on the cross, not on anything that we can, of ourselves, do. It is very clear that nothing belonging to our old life is capable of producing in us a holy life; God alone makes this possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the cross, Jesus finished the work that us holy, now the Holy Spirit is in us, doing the work that will help us to walk in holiness. But for the Holy Spirit to do this, our faith must be entirely placed on what Christ did on the cross for both justification and sanctification.
So, walk in a manner that befits your calling as a person saved by grace. This is what the apostle Peter meant when he said, "but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct".
