Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” John 6:28-29
Many
people are looking for what they can do to please God, but unknown to
them, there is nothing anyone can do in himself that can please God
because all of us have been touched by sin. The only work pleasing to
God is the one that has been done by His Son on the cross. So Jesus told
the Jews that the acceptable work of God is to believe in Him whom, He
sent. Are you desiring to do the work of God? Then believe in Jesus
Christ whom He sent.
Also
notice that the people asked, "what shall do to do the WORKS of God",
but in answering them, Jesus said, "The WORK of God is..." They thought
of works, but there is only one work, and Jesus, our representative Man,
did it on the cross. What is left is for all to believe. Have you
believed? Are you, like the Jews, asking for what you will do to do the
works of God? This is the work of God: believe in His Son whom He sent.
