By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.1 John 4:17
This will be our confidence in that day, that as He is, so
are we. When we stand before the Father, He will see the perfection of
Jesus in us, because what He sees in Christ is what He will see in us.
No one can contemplate peace with God on the day of
judgment who has not made peace with Him in this world through the blood
of Jesus Christ. The confidence that we have is that God's love has
been perfected in us by the Holy Spirit which He has put in us.
What will give us boldness as we stand before God on the
day of judgment is our union with Christ. On that day, we will not be
seen apart from the merit of Christ. The love of God shed abroad in our
hearts by the Holy Spirit will be our confidence because there is no
fear in love.
What blessed assurance! What blessed
hope! That a man can stand before God, confident, without fear of being
judged according to his own works because of what Jesus Christ did on
the cross for us. Thanks be to God who has blessed us with so great
salvation as this. But may I ask, do you have this confidence? It can be
yours by confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believing in
your heart that God raised Him from the dead.
