"By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin." Romans 5:12
The sentence of death defies the ingenuity of man. The best that man can come up with, in medicine and technology, is no match for death. Man has conquered virtually everything in nature, but death. Only by what God accomplished in Christ can death be overcome. Through His death on the cross, Jesus destroyed the power of death. In Christ, we can say, death, where is thy sting?
Death has no respect for human attainment. It stings the educated, it stings the unlearned, it stings the rich, it stings the poor, it stings the cultured, it stings the primitive. All of humanity has been made subject to death by the single disobedience of Adam. The only hope for the end of the reign of death is found in the single obedience of Jesus Christ, culminating in His death on the cross. He went into the region of death and conquered death, rising on the third day to an endless life. All who believe in Him are associated in this victory over death. This victory over death can be yours by simply believing in your heart that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is the Lord. The dread and tyranny of death ends with Christ.
