Taking Hold of the Covenant

"For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off." Isaiah 56:4-5

God's covenant is a powerful thing, it ties Him to those who bind themselves to Him by it. It is His unchanging commitment to those who take hold of it. Even when those outside the covenant come into it by faith, God blesses them with the same blessings as those that are of the covenant. The Syrophoenician woman in Matthew 15:21-28 found this to be true, that a stranger can, by faith, come into the blessings of the covenant.

"Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all people." Isaiah 56:6

Those in the covenant serve God; they love to name the name of the Lord, and because they love His name, they will never take it in vain. They keep the commands of God as a mark of their love and reverence for Him.

When Gentiles come into the covenant, God responds to them and blesses them with all the blessings of Abraham. He has given Jesus Christ to us for a covenant, therefore, anyone who comes to Jesus, comes into covenant relationship with God, as Father. In Christ, we can say that Abraham's blessings are ours. This is the beauty of the the New Covenant, all who come to it have the God of heaven as their Father, and become joint heirs with Jesus of the inheritance of God. And He has promised to be to us more than our earthly fathers. Praise God!
