Nevertheless,
to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same
rule, let us be of the same mind. Philippians 3:16
The
much that you have learned, walk in it. How wonderful it will be when
we all begin to live after the knowledge that we have received in the
word of God. This is Paul's admonition to the Philippians. To help them
attain to what he told them, he went on to tell them, "Brethren, join in
following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a
pattern." In other words, to facilitate your walking in the truth that
you have learned, it will be necessary that you also take note of those
around you whose lives are in sync with the word of God, and model after
them.
This
is the walk that will guarantee your steady upward growth in Christ.
There are people who God has placed around you with the specific purpose
of aiding your growth in Christ. It is possible that they may not even
be aware of this, but you will know them by the fruit that they bear.
But Paul did not only tell them of those who can advance their cause in
Christ, he also drew their attention to those whom he called the enemies
of the cross of Jesus. The ways of such people lead to destruction,
whose god is their bellies. From such we are to withdraw, for evil
communication destroys good character. It is easy to identify such
people, they live only for earthly things. They are sensual. So by their
fruits you will know them.
The
bottom line is this, there are people around you who you are either
going to model after, or avoid if you're going to be all that God has
made you for.
