Jesus and the Kingdom of God

"And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening." Acts 28:23

The Jews were looking forward to the establishment of the literal kingdom of God on the earth, and when Jesus came to them, He declared that the kingdom of God was at hand. This should naturally be good news to a people who were awaiting its coming. But sadly, their expectations of what the kingdom of God should be like and how it will come was at variance with the truth taught in the scriptures. They rejected the King of the kingdom when He appeared because He didn't fit their idea of the Messiah.

Apostle Paul gathered the elders of the Jewish nation in Rome, and it is interesting to see how He presented the matter of the kingdom to them. "...he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets..." The Jews had law of Moses and the writings of the prophets, yet, there was a disconnect with the truth of the scriptures because they failed to see Jesus. It was this disconnect that Paul sought to bridge by pointing them to Jesus Christ.

Are you looking forward to the coming of the kingdom of God? It is a wonderful expectation because it is the culmination of everything that the law and prophets looked forward to, but the key to this wonderful kingdom is Jesus Christ. What you do with Him is what you do with the kingdom of God.

"Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him." Acts 28:31
