In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his
presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and
he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. Isaiah 63:9
Sometimes
people, in their times of pain and anguish ask, 'where's God?' But
there's no time that God is nearest to His own than when they are in
distress. Jesus said to Saul on the road to Damascus, 'why are you
persecuting Me?' When His people suffer, He also suffers.
Are
you in a position where you are perplexed and overwhelmed by what you
are going through? One thing you can be certain about is that God is in
that situation with you. You may not know anything else about your
circumstance, but this much you can be certain about, God is with you.
How reassuring this knowledge can be, that the Almighty God is afflicted
in your affliction.
According to the prophet
Isaiah, 'In all their affliction he was afflicted.' It is inconceivable
to contemplate Him absent from the experience of His people. But He is
not only afflicted in their afflictions, He also saves them. But not
only that He saves them, He also bares and carries them. No one can
possibly understand the pain you are bearing, but He does, because He is
right in the furnace of your affliction with you.
