Adam and Jesus

"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." 1 Corinthians 15:22

When the bible says that in Adam all die, what is in view is temporal death. Because of the sin of Adam, death passed on to all humanity. Everyone who is born, both the good and the bad, are headed for death. Adam is the progenitor of a race whose end is death, but in contrast, in Jesus all shall be made alive. It is important that we make clear that this is not speaking of Christ giving eternal life to everyone, but rather that Christ will bring all who died in Adam back to life because He is the life giver.

In John 5:28, Jesus said, "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." This verse defeats the lie that once a person dies, he goes into extinction.

In Adam, all die, but in Christ, all are made alive to answer for how they lived in this world. As we said before, when the bible says that in Christ all shall live, it does not mean that He will raise all to eternal life. Since everyone will be brought back to life to be judged for how they lived, it becomes instructive for everyone to understand that each person is the architect of his/her eternal destination. For this reason, it is important that we all choose wisely, and act quickly because none of us is a master of when this life shall come to an end.
