"For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world." John 6:32
Physical life is sustained by physical bread, and it is God that gives this to man, but the soul of man can only be sustained by the heavenly Bread, and this is what what Jesus called the Bread of God which comes from heaven, and gives life to the world, the life being eternal life. This Bread from heaven is Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son sent into the world to die on the cross for the forgiveness of the sin of the world, and whosoever believes in Him shall be saved and have everlasting life, which is the Father's own life.
The fathers ate manna in the wilderness and eventually died because manna could only provide temporal nourishment for the body, but the Bread from heaven provides spiritual life, and justifies those who eat it. There are two kinds of life, physical and spiritual, and each of these is nourished by bread, but of different types. The former nourishes physical life, while the latter does not only nourish spiritual life, it is the source of it. It is to this spiritual nourishing life, Jesus, the Bread of God, that the world is called to believe in, and by Him receive the very life of God. This is the greatest honour to which fallen humanity can ever be called to, to partake in the very life of God through faith in the Bread of God which came from heaven.
