The Gospel Confronts

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Acts 2:37

"When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them." Acts 5:33

The gospel of Jesus Christ, when properly presented, never leaves the hearers neutral. It either results in repentance or offence. When the gospel is preached in such ways that leaves the sinner neither repentant nor offended, then it can be said that the true gospel was not presented. Unfortunately, the preacher, in a bid to win all have watered down the message, and thereby removing the confrontational flavor of the gospel message. Neither Jesus nor the apostles preached this brand of gospel message.

The sinner must be shown the dire consequences of rejecting the free grace of God offered to all. This leaves the hearers with the responsibility of deciding whether or not to accept it. To pat the sinner with words that leave him without a motivation to act is to do him grave injustice.
